Dogs make superb pets, they are loyal, friendly and great listeners. When it comes to adding a new furry friend into your family home it`s vitally important to think about the happiness of everyone involved. There is a perfect breed for everyone and it`s important to find a suitable candidate so that parents, children and canine are a compatible mix.

Children are frequently unaware of their own strength and can sometimes play a little rough without realising. There will also be times when a young child may tumble near the family dog and hold on in an attempt to stop a fall. Or, the child may pet the dog a little too rough as they are learning how to be gentle. It is for these reasons, any family dog should be tolerant enough to allow some hard patting or tail and ear tugging. Many breeds work well with children, here are 10 such breeds that will make a welcome addition to any family home.

The Shnauzer is a great family pet, they are keen to please and keep the family safe. They require grooming and daily exercise. They thrive on human companionship and are available in three sizes.

The Bichon Frise is a white and very fluffy happy-go-lucky dog. Obedient and very faithful, they love to be involved and to investigate and are good with children of all ages

Boxers can look a little intimidating on first impressions but they are sweet and friendly. A natural guardian, the boxer prefers to spend his time with people than with other dogs. Though this breed can do well in quiet homes, he can also thrive in busy active families.
